The Pool Comp has been held annually for 10 years at Gateshead Tavern in honour of beloved local Harry. Harry was a legend of the area who brought joy and laughter to all he came into contact with and was a legend at pool. Like everyone, he had his struggles and at one point found himself experiencing homelessness.
Sadly 10 years ago he passed away only in his early 50’s. In honour of him, his family and friends started a pool comp and travelled interstate every year to take part in it. For the first time this year, his family decided to use the event as a platform to raise funds for a deserving cause and they chose Soul Hub.
Throughout the day generous people from all walks of life donated in honour of Harry and helped raise a few hundred dollars for Soul Hub. Since then the organisers have assured us that Soul will be the future beneficiaries of the funds raised in next year’s pool comp as well.
It’s a testament to Harry and his friends and family that this event has gone on for 10 years and we at Soul are truly honoured we got to be a part of the special day and look forward to taking part in next year’s comp!
